Here is a recently shared multiple block cardinal print which is carved from a rubber eraser stamp blocks. It is nice to be able to work quickly to develop ideas which I will possibly return to later for more developed woodblock or linocut prints.  These rubber blocks, though, do have a fun, quick and easy quality to them which is rewarding.  I am working on a FAQ post and wanted to know if there was anything you were really interested in knowing about this process or my experiences doing this so far. Fall Leaves handcarved stamps by Andrea Lauren

It has been a busy month of freelance design commissions as well as keeping up with my own personal projects.  Continuing to create everyday, setting-aside dedicated time to making art work by hand, and sharing my process on Instagram has been a rewarding endeavor.
Here is a recent stamp project of carving autumn leaves and printing them by hand with a palette of seasonal colors.  Using these blocks for printing on paper is not the final step in their creative use, using the elements for new repeat patterns for my spoonflower shop and exploring the designs digitally is a rewarding creative expansion as well.

Origami Swan by Andrea Lauren

Here are some process shots from carving to printing my swan design.  I like to use the soft rubber stamping material for these little ones -- each stamp is about 4 inches -- since it requires less effort to take away material and I know I will be working with the completed image on the computer after the initial process.  Still, however, I like to be connected to my work in a hands-on way; the idea of working solely on a tablet or through software does not appeal to me personally.  The smell of ink, feeling of paper, and many errors which come with making something by hand are the true joys and life affirming aspects of creating something unique.  All in all, though, I am very pleased with the outcome--little errors and all.  Follow along with more of my processes and say hi on Instagram:  @inkprintrepeat

2013 Highlights

2013 has been a whirlwind year.  A small catalog of highlights to remember as the years pass.

Lithography Class by Andrea Lauren

I've been taking a Lithography class for the past few months.  The class wraps up next week and I've been trying to squeeze as much time in the studio as I can before the end.  It's been an interesting and sometimes trying experience, but a valuable one nonetheless.  I'll be scanning my pieces soon, but until then, here are a few snapshots of the studio space.

Adventure Awaits

This new 'Adventure Awaits' piece is a remake of an illustration 'Stump Camp' I did a long time ago and the very beginning of this whole journey.  Currently available in my shop as an 11x17 poster and Society6.

Here's a great piece 'John Henry,' composer as a radio score, by Aaron Copland which is new to me as a listener. I thought this composer's music might fit well with an outdoor sort of theme since it is often delving into the genres of nature and Americana; there is something about camping in tents that seems so quintessentially 'American.'
