Printing on Textiles by Andrea Lauren
In thinking about opening an online shop featuring my printmaking I knew I wanted to contribute to the long tradition of block printing textiles. Here's a look at some of my experiments on a variety of fabric types. I'm currently narrowing down a line of pillows, clutches, and tea towels for my new shop.

DeleteMay I ask what ink you use? You prints are so vibrant and solid.
ReplyDeleteI like to use water-based textile screen printing ink (blick or speedball) with an added fixative made by versatex. The ink straight from the tub is a bit runny for printing on fabric so i take a small amount that I am going to use and roll out a little on an inking platen and let it sit for a few minutes until its more tacky. Then I ink the block with a brayer and place it face-down onto the fabric. I use a hardcover book and give it some weight to press the block down. It's helpful to have something soft underneath the fabric while I'm printing to cushion and assist good ink transfer.

Will the ink wash off or fade over time? Did you have to pre-treat you fabric?
